Reminiscent of a snow covered path, this smooth and coarse dropped glaze is a feature of this bowl. Shino ware, or stoneware, from the Gifu prefecture has been around since the 16th century and, like this bowl, is still made there. A tea bowl would be used as part of the highly choreographed Japanese tea ceremony.
