Ohara Koson was famous as a master of 'Kachō-e', bird and flower, designs. He worked from the late 19th and early 20th centuries as part of the 'Shin-hanga', new prints, movement. The lotus is a symbol of purity, enlightenment, self-regeneration and rebirth, as its roots are in the dirtiest waters, yet it produces the most beautiful flower.
