This washi origami paper is decorated with a geometric design inspired by the shape of hemp leaves (Asanoha). Hemp was a common fabric in Japan used for clothing before cotton was introduced. It was a fabric worn by peasants because they had to make their clothes and, as a thicker fabric, it still stayed popular in the cooler parts of Japan. Hemp grows quickly and straight to the sky so the patterns are also popular in infant clothing so they may grow healthy and strong.
Yuzen Washi paper is a special type of traditional Japanese paper perfect for origami and other crafts. Made from long fibres, it is thin and flexible as well as long-lasting and durable.
