Beautiful Japanese ceramic serving plate in a contemporary square design. The Seigaiha, or wave, pattern is a traditional Japanese design that depicts waves of water symbolising the sea's bounty, good luck, and infinite happiness.
The wave motif originated in the Persian Empire and was introduced to Japan in the 6th century from China. The pattern came to be named 'Seigaiha' as performers of the Gagaku (ancient Japanese court music) dressed in costumes with the wave pattern during a dance called the 'Seigaiha'. Made in Japan from quality porcelain. Suitable for dishwasher use.
